ChatGPT Best Practices and An Announcement!

BLUE TIDE CREATIVE CHATGPT BEST PRACTICES

In a previous newsletter post, TO AI, OR NOT TO AI? THAT IS THE QUESTION, I discussed my thoughts on ChatGPT and how it could impact PR and marketing efforts and professionals (our jobs are fine). I've received enough questions about ChatGPT, mostly about prompt best practices, that I thought I would do a quick follow-up. (Disclaimer: I'm still learning and becoming familiar with the platform. The suggestions below have worked for me on my AI journey.)

Here are some tips to get the most out of ChatGPT and other AI platforms:

  1. Have some fun. Before using ChatGPT for professional work, experiment and have fun with the platform. Use it to make a grocery list in the style of an epic Arthurian legend. Write a love letter to your pet in the style of a Nora Ephron rom-com. Use it to plan a vacation by prompting it to find the best places to eat or can't-miss spots. This is a great way to learn how to use the platform and get comfortable with the prompts.

  2. Be specific. Avoid ambiguous, generic, or vague language. Remember, this is a bot that is still learning and evolving. It can't sense sarcasm and sees things very cut and dry. Be crystal clear on what you want and need before typing a prompt.

  3. Channel your inner Kindergarten teacher. Think of it like the movie How to Train Your Dragon, but you're training your language model instead. You'll have to nurture your relationship with the technology and build trust. If you're going to use it, you've got to put effort into it. Experiment and create prompts that expand the language capabilities and style responses. As with anything in life, the amount of effort you put into something will determine what you get out of it.

  4. Remember, it's not human. If you're using the ChatGPT platform to write things for work, communications to others, etc., you will still need to proofread and edit the copy created before sending it out. Although the platform can create some amazing content, you need to ensure that your voice can still be heard.
